Dear readers,

13 junior scientists completed their doctorates at the University of Education Weingarten last year. At present, 127 doctoral candidates are conducting research at the university. With the Weingarten Graduate School, the university has created attractive support services for them. In this newsletter, we would like to take a closer look at the journey towards completing a doctorate.

As part of the Annual Academic Celebration, several awards were once again presented: the Teaching Award to Junior Professor Dr. Steve Kenner, the DAAD Prize to Olga Sidorova, and the Gender Prizes to Katharina Brutsch and Lotta Betz. The commitment shown by the prize-winners sets an example for others and helps to spark enthusiasm for studying, research and knowledge transfer at the university.

Steve Kenner Awarded the ‘Lehrpreis’ for Teachers
With his BarCamp “Society in Transition” in 2024 and 2025, Assistant Professor Dr. Steve Kenner brought together over 200 participants from the fields of research, academia, and education, as well as engaged citizens, at the University of Education Weingarten. For this achievement, he was awarded the ‘Lehrpreis’, a prize for excellent teaching, from the Kreissparkasse Ravensburg at the university’s annual academic ceremony.

Dr. Juliana Gras, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Educational Science at the University of Education Weingarten (PH), was awarded the 2025 Maria Gräfin von Linden Prize by the Association of Female Scientists of Baden-Württemberg in Karlsruhe.

Honor for a Lifetime’s Work That Brings People Together
The University of Education Weingarten (PH) honored the lifetime achievements of Reutlingen-based poet and collector Wilhelm König by awarding him an honorary doctorate. König entrusted his Württemberg Dialect Archive to the PH last year. The archive has been housed in the university library on Martinsberg since 2024 and is open to the public.

Olga Sidorova, a teacher originally from Russia, has received the 2025 German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Award from the University of Education Weingarten (PH) in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements and her significant social commitment.
